Trip description
The Great Southern Tour of Morocco is an authentic journey to discover primarily the south of the country. This 4x4 begins in Fez , whose Medina , the envy of the Arab world, is a beautiful labyrinth where you can lose yourself and immerse yourself in its history and culture. The route will take us through such original places as the villages of Ifrane , known as "Little Switzerland" , and its impressive forests of Giant Cedars . We will continue until we reach Erfoud , the gateway to the majestic Great Erg Chebbi Desert , a spectacle for the senses. There, the endless dunes and the magical aura that surrounds these places will allow us to experience an unforgettable night under the stars . We will leave the desert behind to cross the High Atlas , discovering breathtaking landscapes along the way. From the mountains to the city, we will arrive in Marrakech , a city full of color, dotted with artisans and artists, with wonderful squares and aromas that will remain forever in our memories.

Day 1 of the itinerary
Arrival in Fez
- Departure from the airport of origin to Fez .
- Arrival in Fez . ( Depending on the time of year, there may be a time difference. )
- Pick up at the airport and transfer to the Riad in the Medina or 4* Hotel .
- Accommodation and dinner.
Day 2 of the itinerary
Itinerary of the day: Fez – Ifrane – Ziz Valley – Erfoud
- In the morning, we will take a walking tour with a local guide through the ancient Medina of Fez , one of the most authentic and best preserved in the Arab world.
- We will walk through its labyrinthine medieval streets , where, amidst the bustle of its people, we will discover craft centres, mosques and palaces .
- In the early afternoon, we will depart by 4x4 vehicle with a driver heading south to cross the Middle Atlas to reach Ifrane , known as “Little Switzerland” due to its striking resemblance to that country.
- We will continue through the Giant Cedar Forests .
- If we're lucky, we might be able to feed a colony of wild monkeys that lives high up on the mountain.
- We will continue the route passing through the Ziz Valley , home to more than ten million palm trees , until we reach Erfoud , a city known as “the Gateway to the Desert” .
- Accommodation and dinner at Kasbah Xaluca , a unique establishment in Morocco due to its unique characteristics.
Day 3 of the itinerary
Desert Adventure Day
- Today we will experience a day of Total Desert .
- We will travel along one of the old tracks used in the Dakar Rally , visiting desert villages and families
- We will stop at the Marine Fossil Quarries , which are over 360 million years , and enjoy a picnic in an authentic oasis .
- We will continue the route until we reach the impressive Great Erg Chebbi , known as the "Desert of Dunes of the finest sand" .
- There we will change the 4x4 vehicle for camels , which will take us to the heart of the dunes to contemplate an unforgettable sunset .
- We will arrive with the dromedaries at the Bivouac de luxe , where we will stay in traditional tents , similar to those used by desert nomads.
- Accommodation and dinner at the camp . Sleeping “ under the stars spectacular experience .
Day 4 of the itinerary
Sunrise in the Desert and Return to the Kasbah
“Date with Dawn”:
* The Rissani market is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and SundaysIf it doesn't fit the route, we'll try to schedule another day, or sometimes it won't be possible to visit.
“Date with Dawn”:
- We recommend getting up early to hike to the top of the dunes and enjoy the sunrise—a magical experience.
- Afterwards, we will have a Bedouin breakfast at the camp.
- After breakfast, departure by 4x4 vehicle to surround the Erg until reaching the abandoned village of Merdani .
- We will continue to the Sudanese village of Khamlia , where its inhabitants will welcome us with traditional dances and mint tea .
- Later, we will head to Rissani * to visit its traditional market , one of the most authentic in the region, where the desert tribes and nomads still get their supplies.
- donkey “parking” is especially curious .
- We will end the morning by climbing to a natural viewpoint , from where we will say goodbye to the desert with a spectacular panoramic view .
- Return to Kasbah Xaluca , where we will have the rest of the day free to relax after the intense experience in the desert.

Day 5 of the itinerary
Route to the Todra Gorges and Dades Valley
- Departure on a paved road towards Tinerhir , a small and prosperous town that stands out for the contrast between its pink houses and its extensive palm groves .
- It is the ideal starting point to enter the famous Todra Gorges , where we can take a short walk following the course of the river .
- We will continue the route towards Boumalne Dades , a town located in the Valley of the Birds , at 1,612 meters above sea level , in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains .
- In the afternoon, we will travel through the Dades Valley to its impressive gorges , where we will stop at a viewpoint to enjoy tea with a view.
- On the way back, we will stop at the curious rock formation known as the “monkey paws” .
- Accommodation and dinner at the Hotel Xaluca Dades 4* .
Day 6 of the itinerary
Route to Marrakech – Aït Ben Haddou and Tichka Pass
- In this stage we have about 310 km of travel , which will be amply rewarded by the spectacular landscapes we will cross.
- We will head towards Marrakech , stopping to visit the famous Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou , declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and the setting for multiple film productions.
- We will continue crossing the Tizi n'Tichka , also known as the Tichka Mountain Pass , the highest road pass in Morocco.
- We will leave behind the arid, lunar landscape of the south to enter an area of green valleys and ochre tones .
- We recommend getting your first taste of the city by visiting the incomparable Djemaa el-Fna Square , which comes alive at this time of day:
- Reciters, fortune tellers, jugglers, dancers, snake charmers, tooth pullers... fill the square with color and magic.
- outdoor food stalls are set up , where you can taste typical dishes in a unique atmosphere.
- Accommodation in a Riad in the Medina or a 5* Hotel.
Day 7 of the itinerary
Discovering Marrakech and returning home
- In the morning, we will take a guided walking tour of the Medina of Marrakech with a local guide.
- We will begin by admiring the Koutoubia Minaret , twin sister of the Giralda in Seville, and continue with a visit to the Bahia Palace .
- We will enter the narrow streets of the Souk , where we will be able to see artisans in action :
- weaving carpets, making slippers... and we will find an infinite variety of quality crafts .
- We will visit a Berber pharmacy , where they will reveal some of their traditional “secrets .
- We will return to Djemaa el-Fna Square , which has a completely different atmosphere during the day than at night.
- Free afternoon to practice the art of haggling or explore the hidden corners of the Medina .
- At the agreed time , transfer to Marrakech airport for the return flight .

- The trip is made in 4x4 vehicles with a driver simple and hospitable people who enrich the experience.
- Official guides are exclusively for visits to the Medinas ; they do not accompany you on the routes.
