The start of your adventure through Morocco

Welcome to Morocco with Xaluca Tours

Over 20 years ago, in the garden of the Dar Batha Museum in Fez, with its fountains, citrus trees, and palm trees, our love affair with Morocco began. Surrounded by shimmering mosaics, a colonnade of columns, and carved cedar wood, we met at a concert of the World Sacred Music Festival and were captivated. Two things made us want to stay in Morocco: the country's diversity, with its ancient cities steeped in history, its endless desert sands, remote national parks, majestic mountain ranges, verdant vineyards, delicious cuisine, and a beautiful coastline. And, most importantly, the people: whether city dwellers, artisans in the medinas, rural women, or desert nomads, they are all kind, hospitable, and immensely proud of their country.

Regions and Cities of Morocco

Morocco is full of unique regions, each with its own particular charm. From bustling cities to tranquil mountain landscapes, each region offers a different experience for visitors.
  • Marrakech: Known as the "Red City" for its clay walls, Marrakech offers a perfect blend of history and modernity. The medina is a vibrant labyrinth of markets and monuments, while the Ville Nouvelle boasts trendy restaurants and art galleries.
  • Fez: The spiritual city of Morocco. In its medina workshops, you can watch artisans at work, while the fresh produce markets offer an unparalleled sensory experience. Don't miss the Kairouine Mosque and the Attarine and Bou Inania Madrasas.
  • The Middle Atlas Mountains: Known for their medinas, markets, and national parks. The Meknes region boasts impressive monuments surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, as well as cedar forests where you can spot Barbary macaques.
  • The Mediterranean Coast and the Rif Mountains: The coast and the Rif offer ocean views, mountains, and a rich history. Tangier is a charming blend of past and present, while the medina of Chefchaouen, with its blue houses, is ideal for leisurely strolls.
  • The North Atlantic Coast: Home to elegant cities like Rabat and Casablanca, as well as charming Essaouira, famous for its medina and artistic atmosphere. The Moulay Bousselham and Oualidia lagoons are excellent for birdwatching.
  • The High AtlasMountains: These majestic mountains offer spectacular scenery and a wide range of activities, from hikes through verdant valleys to mountain summits. Along the way, you can explore Amazigh architecture, culture, and traditions.
  • Southern Morocco and its Oases: The oasis villages of the Drâa and Dadès Valleys are dotted with ancient kasbahs, and the Sahara dunes beckon adventurers. Date and rose festivals, as well as exploring the arid landscapes of the Jebel Saghro, offer unforgettable experiences.
  • The Sahara and Dakhla: Relax on Agadir beach, learn to surf in Taghazout, and explore the southern beaches all the way to Dakhla. You can also explore the Anti-Atlas Mountains with their hiking and cycling routes for a complete adventure.
Morocco is a land of contrasts, where modern cities coexist with ancient medinas steeped in history. Its narrow, winding alleyways hold the essence of the Maghreb, and every corner offers unique experiences, from local artisans to majestic monuments. In this blog, we explore some of the unmissable experiences this fascinating destination has to offer.

An Experience in the Medinas of Morocco

The medinas of Morocco are the historical heart of the country. Wandering through their alleyways is like stepping back in time. The medina of Fez, Morocco's spiritual city, is the largest car-free medina in the world, and its labyrinthine passageways conceal the "golden trilogy" of must-see monuments. It is special for its authentic atmosphere, where visitors can experience the daily life of local artisans, explore traditional markets, and discover the historical splendor of the Al Quaraouiyine Mosque, the oldest university in the world. In Marrakech, Djemaa El Fna square is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere, with its food stalls, musicians, acrobats, and the vibrant colors that characterize this city. The Marrakech medina is special for its lively daily life, souks overflowing with handicrafts and spices, and the opportunity to admire monuments such as the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia Mosque.
Chefchaouen, on the other hand, is the most photogenic medina in Morocco, with its red-roofed houses that descend to the kasbah, creating a picturesque landscape that invites exploration.
In other posts we will talk specifically about each of these medinas so that you can learn about them in depth and plan your visit.

The ancient Kasbah of Telouet is another magical place that stands out, despite being in ruins.
